F — Feel · Chapter 14
YOUR AVOIDANCE STYLE
Welcome, Commander.
Avoidance is the strategic retreat that compromises your integrity, but it takes many forms — from blaming others to binge-watching instead of facing a hard conversation. The goal isn't to eliminate avoidance entirely; it's to recognize your signature move so you can interrupt it.
Purpose
The purpose of this exercise is to identify your dominant avoidance tactic so you can catch it in the field and choose a more integrity-aligned response.
Instructions
For each statement, rate your level of agreement. Then tally your scores to determine the weight of each avoidance tactic.
BLAME-SHIFTING
When things go wrong, I often find myself pointing the finger at someone else.
I feel a sense of relief when I can hold someone else responsible for my struggles.
I've accused others of causing problems in my life, even if I later realized it wasn't fair.
DISTRACTION
I turn to work, social media, or entertainment when I don't want to think about my feelings.
When I'm upset, I'd rather stay busy than sit with uncomfortable emotions.
I sometimes overcommit to tasks or hobbies to avoid dealing with stress.
MINIMIZING
"I tell myself, "It's not that bad," even when I know something is bothering me.
I compare my problems to others' and convince myself I don't deserve support.
I avoid seeking help because I think my issues aren't severe enough.
RATIONALIZING
I explain away my behavior, even when I know deep down it wasn't the best choice.
I make excuses for avoiding tasks, conversations, or responsibilities.
I downplay the impact of my choices so I don't have to face consequences.
